WHAT COURSE DO I FOLLOW? BTEC Level 2 First Award in Health & Social Care
WHAT WILL I STUDY? HealthThis is a new vocational course suitable for all students considering a career in the country’s largest employer- The Health and Social Care sector. The course is equivalent to 1 GCSE.

There are two core units and two optional units

Core units:

Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development (examination)
This unit provides you with the opportunity to explore how we grow and develop throughout our lives and investigates the factors that affect growth and development.

Unit 2: Health and Social Care Values
What is good practice in health and social care? In this unit you will gain an understanding of how care values are applied in Health and Social Care settings and their importance to the work in this sector.

Optional units:

Unit 3: Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
Communication skills are vital to those who choose to work in this sector. You will investigate the different forms of communication and how they are used effectively in health and social care.

Unit 4: Social Influences on Health and Well-being
In this unit your will explore how we learn acceptable behaviour from our parents, carers, grandparents and even our peers and teachers. You will also investigate the impact of different social factors, such as income, education and social class on the health and wellbeing of individuals.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Students who study this course will develop the skills and attributes essential for successful performance in all aspects of their working life, not just the Health and Social Care sector.
